COLORS OF LIFE in Harajuku: Body Painting, Photography and the Colours Within

At Creative Space Akademeia 21 Harajuku, SUPER “COLORS OF LIFE” brings together body-painting artist Elisa Chana Cecchetti and photographer Leslie Kee. Running from 30 October to 5 November 2026, the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to discover their collaboration in the heart of Tokyo. Admission is free.
For Miyuki Kitagawa, General Manager of VESTA by John Ford in Ginza, the project has a personal significance: she participated in a body-painting and photographic session and attended the exhibition reception on 29 October.
A personal recipe, expressed through colour
Elisa’s creative process begins with listening.
Before applying any paint, she interviews each participant, exploring their personality, experiences and feelings. From this conversation, she develops an individual combination of colours intended to reflect that person’s inner world—something like a personal recipe, carefully composed before being brought to life through body painting.
The participant becomes part of the creative process. Conversation becomes colour, and colour becomes a way of expressing something that may be difficult to put into words.
For Kitagawa, the experience also had a deeply restorative, healing quality. Seeing her inner world interpreted through colour offered a moment of connection with herself, alongside the pleasure of taking part in an imaginative artistic encounter.
Artistic depth, joy and powerful photography
Part of the appeal of Elisa’s work lies in the way artistic depth and playfulness coexist. The thoughtful preparation gives each painting personal meaning, while the experience itself leaves room for freedom, discovery and fun.
Leslie Kee’s powerful photography brings another dimension to the collaboration. His photographs capture the presence and energy of the person wearing the colours, bringing the body painting and the individual together in a striking portrait.
Having experienced the process firsthand, Kitagawa hopes visitors will take the opportunity to enjoy this combination during the exhibition’s limited run: the artistry and joy of Elisa’s body painting, brought into focus through Leslie’s compelling photographic vision.
Two collaborations under one roof
“COLORS OF LIFE” is presented on the gallery’s first floor. On the second floor, SUPER “COLORS OF SOUL” features painting by August Vilella and photography by Leslie Kee. Both exhibitions run over the same dates, with free admission.

Creative Space Akademeia 21 Harajukuで開催されるSUPER「COLORS OF LIFE」は、ボディペイントアーティストのElisa Chana Cecchettiと、写真家Leslie Keeのコラボレーションによる展示です。会期は2026年10月30日〜11月5日。入場無料で、東京の中心で二人の表現に触れることができます。
銀座のVESTA by John Fordでジェネラルマネージャーを務める北川美雪も、今回のプロジェクトでボディペイントと撮影に参加。10月29日のレセプションにも足を運びました。
一人ひとりの内面を映す、色のレシピ
エリサの制作は、相手の話を聞くことから始まります。
ペイントを施す前にモデルとなる人物とインタビューをし、その人の個性や経験、心の内にある思いを探っていきます。そして対話から受け取ったものをもとに、内面を映し出す色を選び、一人ひとりのための組み合わせを作ります。それは、その人だけの処方箋やレシピのようなもの。その準備を経て、ボディペインティングが始まるのです。
参加する人自身も、制作の一部となります。対話が色になり、言葉にしづらい内面が、アートとして姿を現していきます。
北川にとっても、それは深い癒やしを感じる体験でした。自分の内面が色として表現されることで、自分自身と向き合い、つながる時間に。想像力あふれるアートに参加する楽しさとともに、心がほぐれていくような感覚がありました。
高いアート性と楽しさ、そしてレスリーの力強い写真
エリサの作品の魅力は、高いアート性と遊び心が自然に共存しているところにもあります。丁寧な対話と準備が一人ひとりのペイントに意味を与えながら、その体験には自由や発見、楽しさがあふれています。
そこにレスリー・キーの力強い写真が重なることで、コラボレーションはさらに豊かな表現へ。色をまとった人物の存在感やエネルギーを捉え、ボディペイントとその人自身が一つになったポートレートを生み出します。
制作を体験した北川が、会期中にぜひ楽しんでいただきたいと思うのは、まさにこの組み合わせ。エリサのボディペイントのアート性と楽しさ、そしてレスリーの素晴らしく力強い写真。その二つが出会う表現を、ぜひ会場で感じてみてください。
一つの会場で出会う、二つのコラボレーション
「COLORS OF LIFE」はギャラリーの1階で開催。2階では、August Vilellaの絵画とレスリー・キーの写真によるSUPER「COLORS OF SOUL」も同時開催されています。どちらも同じ会期で、入場無料です。
