TOKYO CINEMA WALK: One Film, One Neighbourhood
TOKYO CINEMA WALK|
26 October – 4 November 2026 · Hibiya / Yurakucho / Marunouchi / Ginza
Tokyo becomes a city of cinema this autumn.
The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival runs from 26 October to 4 November 2026, bringing screenings and events to Hibiya, Yurakucho, Marunouchi and Ginza. Its 2026 theme, “CONNECTING — Cinema Connects Us to the World Beyond,” reflects the festival’s aim of bringing different stories, cultures and audiences together.
For visitors, the most enjoyable approach may be to begin with just one film and explore the surrounding neighbourhood.
Choose a film, then discover the city
A screening in Hibiya or Yurakucho can be followed by a walk beneath the lights around the theatres. Marunouchi offers architecture, cafés and restaurants close to Tokyo Station, while Ginza adds galleries, shops and an evening atmosphere to the experience.
There is no need to fit several screenings into one day. Choosing one work—and leaving space before or afterwards to explore—allows the film and the city to become part of the same memory.
The festival includes Competition, Asian Future, Nippon Cinema Now, Animation, Japanese Classics and other sections, offering several entry points for international visitors.
Tickets: what visitors should know
General online ticket sales open on 17 October 2026. Tickets are purchased through the official online ticket site; regular theatre box offices will not sell festival tickets.
Admission QR codes become available from 24 hours before each screening. Purchases are limited to two tickets per screening per order. The announced general prices include:
- Competition and many standard sections: ¥2,200
- Gala Selection: ¥2,700
- Opening, Centerpiece and Closing films: ¥3,500
A TIFF ticket centre is also scheduled to operate near Yurakucho Station from 26 October. Check the official ticket guide before making plans.
What should you wear?
Ordinary screenings do not require formal dress. A jacket, neat knitwear or a composed smart-casual outfit will move comfortably from the cinema to dinner.
For an invited premiere, gala or industry reception, check the dress code stated on the invitation. If the occasion calls for a suit or evening wear, VESTA’s formalwear guide introduces tuxedos, morning coats and other ceremonial options according to the place and time of the event.
One film can open a window onto another culture—and offer a new way to walk through Tokyo.
2026年のテーマは、「CONNECTING — Cinema Connects Us to the World Beyond」。
