サルトリアルフィンさんにインタビューを行いました。

この記事では、
誌面では語りきれなかったインタビューの裏側と、
私自身が強く印象に残ったポイントを、
VESTAの視点から少し補足してみたいと思います。
カジュアルな国・フィンランドで、なぜスーツに辿り着いたのか
フィンランドは、
日本以上に仕事着がカジュアルな国です。
オフィスではチノパンやニットが当たり前。
スーツを着ている人は、ほとんどいない。
そんな環境で育った彼が、
なぜクラシックなテーラードスタイルに行き着いたのか。
その理由が、とても現代的でした。
「トレンドを追い続けることに、疲れてしまった」
シーズンごとに服を買い替え、
流行が変わるたびに違和感を覚える。
その繰り返しの先に、
“長く着られる服”としてのスーツがあったそうです。
スーツは、最もサステイナブルな服かもしれない
彼が語っていたのは、
スーツスタイルのサステイナビリティでした。
・一度、自分の好みが定まれば
・流行で買い替える必要がない
・きちんと手入れすれば、何年も着続けられる
これは、私たちVESTAが日々感じていることでもあります。
特にテーラードスーツは、
「消費する服」ではなく、
時間とともに馴染んでいく服です。
自分のスタイルは、作りながら見えてくる
印象的だったのは、
彼がこう語っていたことです。
「最初は、自分の好みを言語化できなかった」
弁護士事務所時代、
同僚に勧められたテーラーでスーツを作ったものの、
仕上がったのは「悪くはないけれど、違うもの」。
これは、決して珍しい話ではありません。
お客様は、スーツのプロではありません。
・ラペルのロール
・肩の表情
・胸のボリューム
・パンツのバランス
こうした要素を、
最初から正確に言葉にできる方は、ほとんどいないのです。
だからこそ、私たちは発信を続けている

装いを学ぶ文化が、そこにはあった
インタビューで特に興味深かったのが、
フィンランドの教育と服装文化の話です。
15歳で成人を迎え、
正装でのダンスパーティーを経験する。
高校卒業時、
大学進学時にも、
フォーマルな場で装う体験が用意されている。
それはつまり、
「どう見られたいかを考える訓練」
を、
人生の早い段階で自然に行っているということ。
日本では、
その機会がとても少ないと感じます。
スーツは、着る人を選ばない
彼はこうも言っていました。
「スーツを着ていて、悪いことは一つもなかった」
入場を断られた友人の横で、
自分だけがバーに入れた話。
周囲が口に出さなくても、
確実に扱いが変わる実感。
これは、日本でも同じです。
ダブルブレストに惹かれる、今の感覚
最後に、
彼が今もっとも惹かれているスタイルとして
ダブルブレストを挙げていたのも印象的でした。
実はVESTAでも、
- 20代
- 30代
の若い世代で、
ダブルブレストを選ぶ方が増えています。
同じスーツでも、
仕立て方で印象は大きく変わる。
これは、
世界共通の流れなのかもしれません。
これからスーツに挑戦する方へ

- トレンドに疲れてしまった方
- カジュアルしか着てこなかった方
- スーツに少し距離を感じている方

Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Sartorial Finn, a menswear influencer in his 30s,

In this article, I would like to share a few reflections from behind the scenes—
thoughts that could not be fully expressed in print,
and moments from the conversation that left a lasting impression on me from the VESTA perspective.
Why a Suit, in One of the Most Casual Countries in the World?
Finland is a country where workwear is remarkably casual—
even more so than in Japan.
Chinos and knitwear are standard office attire.
People wearing suits are rare.
Growing up in such an environment,
why did Sartorial Finn eventually arrive at classic tailored style?
His answer felt profoundly modern.
“I became tired of constantly chasing trends.”
Buying new clothes every season,
feeling subtle discomfort as styles changed year after year—
at the end of that cycle, he found suits as garments that could be worn long term.
A Suit May Be the Most Sustainable Garment of All
What struck me deeply was his view on sustainability.
- Once you understand your preferences, you don’t need to replace your wardrobe with every trend
- With proper care, a suit lasts for many years
- It evolves with the wearer rather than becoming obsolete
This is something we at VESTA witness daily.
A tailored suit is not something to be consumed.
It is something that ages gracefully, alongside its owner.
Your Style Reveals Itself Over Time
Another memorable moment was when he said:
“At first, I couldn’t verbalize what I liked.”
During his years working at a law firm,
he visited a tailor recommended by colleagues.
The suit he received wasn’t bad—
but it wasn’t him.
This experience is far from uncommon.
Most clients are not suit professionals.
Details such as:
- lapel roll
- shoulder structure
- chest volume
- trouser balance
are difficult to articulate at the beginning.
And that is perfectly natural.
Why We Continue to Share Knowledge

A Culture That Teaches How to Dress
One of the most fascinating parts of the interview
was learning about Finland’s approach to education and dress.
- Formal attire for milestone dance events
- Learning how to present oneself before entering society
- Understanding how one wishes to be seen by others
In other words,
learning how to dress is part of learning how to live.
In Japan, opportunities for this kind of education are rare.
A Suit Rarely Works Against You
He also said something very simple—but powerful:
“I have never experienced anything negative from wearing a suit.”
Whether it was being admitted to places others were not,
or being treated with quiet respect that was never verbalized,
the difference was always there.
This, too, resonates deeply with Japanese culture.
Why Double-Breasted Suits Are Resonating Now
Finally, he mentioned that he is currently drawn to double-breasted suits.
Interestingly, at VESTA we have noticed the same trend—
particularly among clients in their 20s and 30s.
With the same fabric,
a change in construction can dramatically alter presence.
This may well be a global shift in sensibility.
