ジョー・アルウィン｜ふっくらした首元と、軽いフレア
ヴァレンティノを着たジョー・アルウィンで私が注目したのは、リボンのように柔らかく結ばれたボウタイです。結び目まわりにふくらみがあり、左右の羽根にも動きがあります。
全身を見ると、ジャケットの身頃にはゆとりがあり、パンツは裾に向かって少し広がっています。私には、この首元の量感と裾の動きがよく釣り合って見えました。黒の装いの中で、曲線やゆとりがロマンティックな表情をつくっています。
今回のレッドカーペットでは、こうしたリボン調のボウタイが特に印象に残りました。ご自身が取り入れるなら、首元に当てたときの形に加え、ラペルの幅、肩まわり、パンツの裾まで含めて見ると選びやすくなります。
ステラン・スカルスガルド｜ワイドパンツと、端正なボウタイ
ゼニアを着たステラン・スカルスガルドは、ゆとりのあるパンツの落ち方が美しい一着。脚全体に幅を持たせたワイドパンツには、生地がすとんと落ちる伸びやかな線があります。
首元には端正な黒のボウタイ。パンツに量感を持たせながら、胸元をきちんと整える組み合わせも素敵です。

ダブルブレストとピークドラペルで、胸元に存在感を
ジョルジオ・アルマーニを着たクリス・エヴァンスは、ダブルブレスト。前身頃に重なりがあり、低めのボタン位置がゆったりしたエレガンスを感じさせます。
斜め上を向くピークドラペルの襟先にも注目したいところ。胸元にシャープな線が生まれ、凛々しい印象になります。
ダブルブレストは前合わせ、ピークドラペルは襟の形を表す言葉です。シングルの前合わせにピークドラペルを組み合わせることもできます。オーダーでは、この二つを組み合わせて胸元の表情を考えます。
ショールカラーの曲線がつくる、柔らかな華やかさ
ルイ・ヴィトンを着たライアン・クーグラーは、ショールカラーの曲線が目を引きます。首元から胸へ滑らかに続く丸い襟には、夜の礼装らしい華やかさがあります。
ライアンの白いボウタイは、レッドカーペットでのアレンジとして見ると興味深い例です。ガラの招待状がブラックタイの場合は、黒のボウタイを基本にして、主催者の案内に合わせます。

今年のVESTAでは、ショールカラーが圧倒的に多かった
2026年はVESTAでも、タキシードのご注文を多くいただきました。中でも襟の形では、ショールカラーを選ばれる方が圧倒的に多かったのが印象的です。
今年お仕立てしたこちらのお二人もショールカラー。向かって左の方はダブルブレスト、右の方はシングルです。同じ丸い襟でも、前身頃の重なりや胸元の開き方によって、それぞれの個性が表れます。ショールカラーの曲線は、柔らかく華やかで、優雅な雰囲気につながります。
一方、山本様のタキシードはピークドラペル。斜め上を向く襟先が胸元を引き締め、堂々とした存在感を引き立てます。

ジレの三つ揃いか、カマーバンドか。腰まわりを選ぶ
シングルのタキシードでは、ジレを加えた三つ揃い、あるいは二つ揃いにカマーバンドを合わせる方法がクラシックな選択です。どちらもシャツとパンツの境目を覆い、腰まわりを整えます。
ジレは、胸元から腰への線をつなぐ
ジレ、つまりベストを合わせると、ジャケットの前を開けたときにも胸元から腰へ線がつながります。タキシードに合わせる際は、胸元の開きや丈がジャケットと調和する礼装用のデザインを考えます。
カマーバンドは、タキシードならではの小物を楽しむ選択
カマーバンドは腰に巻く礼装用の帯です。ひだを上向きにし、シャツとパンツの境目を覆うように着用します。ひだにオペラの切符を挟んだという逸話も伝わっています。服飾史に思いを巡らせながら、礼装の小物を楽しむのも素敵です。

Start with the invitation’s dress code, then consider the lapels and jacket fastening, the balance between your bow tie and trousers, and how to finish the waist. A black tuxedo, a white formal shirt and a black bow tie form the foundation of black tie.
A rounded shawl collar creates a different impression from a pointed peak lapel. A neatly shaped bow tie and a softly tied, full ribbon bow also bring different expressions to the same black outfit. Four looks from the 2026 Academy Awards offer ideas for choosing your own eveningwear.
What Would You Like to Wear to a Gala Dinner?

A Ribbon Bow Tie and a More Generous Silhouette
Joe Alwyn: Fullness at the Neck and a Subtle Flare
What caught my eye in Joe Alwyn’s Valentino look was the softly tied, ribbon-like bow. There is fullness around the knot and movement in the two wings. The jacket has room through the body, while the trousers flare slightly towards the hem. To my eye, the volume at the neck balances the movement at the hem, giving the black outfit a romantic quality.
Ribbon-like bows were particularly memorable to me on this red carpet. When considering one for yourself, look at the whole outfit, including the lapel width, shoulders and trouser hems.
Stellan Skarsgård: Wide Trousers and a Neatly Shaped Bow Tie
Stellan Skarsgård’s Zegna look shows the appeal of generously cut trousers. Width through the leg allows the cloth to fall in a long, clean line. A neatly shaped black bow tie brings definition to the chest while the trousers carry more volume.

When introducing more room, the fit at the waist, the rise and the trouser length still need to work together to create a balanced line.
Why I Recommend a Self-Tied Bow Tie
I recommend a bow tie that you tie yourself. Its natural fullness and the slight differences between the wings bring softness and dimension to eveningwear. Adjusting the knot and shaping the wings to suit your collar and face can be part of the pleasure of dressing. Double-Breasted Tailoring and Peak Lapels
Chris Evans wore a double-breasted Giorgio Armani tuxedo. The overlap at the front and the lower fastening point lend it a relaxed elegance. The upward-pointing peak lapels add a sharp, confident line through the chest.
Double-breasted describes the jacket fastening, while peak lapel describes the collar and lapel shape. A single-breasted jacket can also have peak lapels. In an order, these choices work together to shape the front of the garment.
The Soft Elegance of a Shawl Collar
Ryan Coogler’s Louis Vuitton look draws attention to the continuous curve of its shawl collar. The rounded line flowing from the neck towards the chest brings a graceful sense of occasion.

Shawl Collars Were the Clear Favourite at VESTA This Year
We received many tuxedo orders at VESTA in 2026. Among our clients’ lapel choices, shawl collars were the clear favourite.
Both clients pictured here chose shawl collars for their tuxedos made this year. The gentleman on the left wears a double-breasted jacket, while the gentleman on the right wears a single-breasted one. The overlap and opening through the chest give each outfit its own character. The curved lapel brings a soft, graceful elegance to both.
Mr Yamamoto’s tuxedo has peak lapels. Their upward-pointing tips give the chest definition and contribute to a confident presence.

A Waistcoat or a Cummerbund?
With a single-breasted tuxedo, classic choices include a three-piece ensemble with an evening waistcoat, or a two-piece ensemble worn with a cummerbund. Both cover the junction between shirt and trousers and give the waist a finished appearance.
A Waistcoat Connects the Chest and Waist
A waistcoat maintains a continuous line even when the jacket is open. For a tuxedo, choose an evening design with an opening and length that harmonise with the jacket.
A Cummerbund Lets You Enjoy a Distinctive Evening Accessory
A cummerbund is a formal waist sash. Wear it with its pleats facing upwards, covering the junction between shirt and trousers. A waistcoat and cummerbund are usually alternatives. With a double-breasted jacket worn fastened, the overlapping fronts cover the waist, allowing the waistcoat or cummerbund to be omitted.
Consider How You Look and Feel When Seated
A gala dinner involves time at the table. As well as checking your standing silhouette, consider room through the waist and thighs when seated, and whether the shirt-to-trouser junction remains neatly covered. Reaching forwards should also feel comfortable through the shoulders and back.
