外島氏によると、近年マリネッラでも、ブラックタイを求めるお客様が増えているそうです。
「クラシックコンサートやオペラ鑑賞の前に、実際にタキシードを着用されてご来店され、その場で私たちがボウタイを結んでからお出かけになるお客様もいらっしゃいます」
これはとても素敵な文化です。

ボウタイの結び方は、腿で練習するのが上達の近道
今回の動画では、外島氏にボウタイの結び方も実演していただきました。
興味深かったのは、首ではなく「腿を首に見立てて練習する」という方法です。
外島氏によると、まずクロスさせる側を少し長めに取り、最初の結び目をしっかり締めることが大切とのこと。
ここが緩いと、仕上がりがずれてしまいます。
その後、前にくる羽をつくり、もう一方を下に落として後ろへ通し、形を整えていきます。
そして、ここが手結びの魅力です。
完成したボウタイは、左右上下が完全に均一である必要はありません。
むしろ、少し前後にずらし、動きを出すことで、手で結んだ自然な表情が生まれます。
外島氏はそれを「不完全の美」と表現されました。
イタリアらしい、少し余白のある美しさ。
完璧に整えすぎないからこそ、その人らしさが出る。
これは、手仕事の服にも通じる考え方です。

In the video, Mr. Tojima also demonstrated how to tie a bow tie.
What was especially interesting was his advice to practice not around the neck, but on the thigh, treating it as if it were the neck.
According to Mr. Tojima, the side that crosses over should be taken slightly longer, and the first knot should be tightened firmly.
If this part is loose, the finished bow will shift.
From there, one forms the front wing, brings the other side down, passes it through the back, and adjusts the shape.
And this is where the charm of a self-tied bow tie appears.
The finished bow does not need to be perfectly symmetrical.
In fact, a slight difference between the front and back wings gives it a natural expression that can only come from being tied by hand.
Mr. Tojima described this as “the beauty of imperfection.”
