マイクロポリエステルの主な排出源は衣服で(35%)、洗濯後の排水からフィルター処理しきれずに海水に流れ出ていることが原因です。
食物連鎖の過程で海洋生物に蓄積され、結果として人体にも食事で取り込まれ蓄積されていきます。
特に男性の精巣への蓄積は顕著で、他の哺乳類や胎盤の蓄積量の３倍とも。最新の研究結果では、マイクロポリエステルが精巣内に蓄積されたことにより、精子数が現象、現在は50年前の半分とも言われているのです。
さらに恐ろしいことにこの結果として、2050年にはほとんどのカップルが体外受精に頼らなければ子を持つことはできないだろうと言われ、現在多くの製薬会社がIVF（体外受精の技術）に多額の投資をしている、というまだ一般には知られていない現状があります。
マイクロポリエステルはファストファッションによく使用される代表的な素材で、全世界のファッション生産の62％がこうした石油化学由来の人工繊維と言われています。

Today, I would like to explain why we want our customers to wear Vesta suits with pride, especially from the perspective of our environmentally conscious manufacturing practices. Vesta suits are made from 99.7% natural materials.
One of the main environmental impacts of modern fashion is the pollution caused by micro-polyester. The primary source of micro-polyester pollution is clothing (35%), which, after being washed, releases microfibers that cannot be completely filtered out and end up in the oceans. These microfibers accumulate in marine organisms through the food chain and eventually enter the human body through diet.
This accumulation is particularly significant in male reproductive organs, with micro-polyester levels found to be three times higher than in other mammals or placentas. Recent studies have shown that the accumulation of micro-polyester in the testes can lead to a decrease in sperm count, which is now reported to be half of what it was 50 years ago.
Even more concerning is the prediction that by 2050, most couples may need to rely on in vitro fertilization (IVF) to have children, a trend that has led many pharmaceutical companies to invest heavily in IVF technology—a reality not widely known.
Micro-polyester is a common material in fast fashion, which accounts for 62% of global fashion production, consisting of petrochemical-derived synthetic fibers.
