創業者・北川康信が
「日本社会を支える働く人々へ、高品質なスーツを最適な価格で届けたい」
と決意したとき、その中心にあったのは
世界基準の素材 × 日本の職人技 × イタリアの感性
という、当時としては誰も実現していなかった発想でした。
● 当時から日本の主流スーツは「イージーオーダー」
バブル期、大流行したアルマーニやヴェルサーチのインポートスーツなど。
その後のバブル崩壊では“ものづくり回帰”が進み、
イタリアのファクトリーブランドや職人技に注目が集まり、
やがて「クラシコ・イタリア」ブームへとつながってゆきます。
その一方で、市場のボリュームを占めていたのは、現在も市場の9割以上のシェアである大量生産型の「イージーオーダースーツ（工場縫製スーツ）」でした。現在のチェーン店オーダースーツショップや、個店に見えながらも量産の縫製工場にスーツ製作を業務委託しているオーダースーツショップによる紳士服のことです。
スピードもコストも優れていますが、大量生産ゆえに最高級イタリア品質の“美しいシルエット”や“構築美”とは違うスーツです。
しかし北川は、その主流を横目にまったく別の未来を描いていました。
「すべてのビジネスマンが、1シーズンに1着は“最高級スーツ”を予算内で買える世界へ。」

● 40以上の工房を巡って確立した「細部の哲学」
──“100万円級仕立て”を手に届く価格で再現するという革命
クラシコ・イタリアブームが訪れるより前、
北川は独自開発のスーツ
「サルトリア・クラシコ」
を商標登録し、世に送り出します。
その特徴は明確でした。

● 商標「サルトリア・クラシコ」誕生
本開き袖口、お台場、フル毛芯…ディテールはすべて必然
北川が、娘でイタリア語を話す美雪と連れ立って、国内外40以上の工房を訪ね歩くなかで得た答えは、ただひとつ。
「細部の再現なくして、本物の仕立ては成立しない。」
北川は仕立ての本質を構造パーツや手縫い工程に見出していましたが、もちろん見た目のディテールも大切にしました。
現在の紳士服では当たり前となったスペックも、当時、北川がイタリアで研究し根付かせたものが少なくありません。だからこそ当時、東京ジョンフォードが「サルトリアクラシコ」の商標登録を、特許庁から許可されたのです。
ヴェスタのスペックに今も受け継がれるディテールの多くは、
この時期に確立されています。

一点物の手縫いでありながら、
一定以上の品質を保たなければブランドは成立しません。

DAY 3 – How VESTA’s Unique Tailoring Engineering Was Born
The Founder Who Visited 40+ Workshops and Discovered the “Japan × Italy” Formula**
When founder Yasunobu Kitagawa declared his mission—
“to deliver truly high-quality suits at fair prices to the people who support Japan’s economy”—
his vision was groundbreaking.
At the core lay an unprecedented idea in Japan at the time:
global-standard fabrics × Japanese craftsmanship × Italian sartorial sensibility.
● Japan’s Mainstream at the Time: Easy-Order Suits
During the bubble economy, imported suits from Armani, Versace, and other Italian maisons dominated.
After the bubble collapse, Japan saw a “return to craftsmanship,” and factory brands and artisanal tailoring gradually gained attention.
This eventually led to the Classico Italia boom.
Yet, the overwhelming majority of the Japanese market—still over 90% today—was built on:
- Chain-store made-to-measure
- Small shops outsourcing to mass-production factories
- Industrial “easy-order” suits (factory-adjusted MTM)
Fast, affordable, and efficient—
but fundamentally different from the silhouette and architecture of true Italian high-end tailoring.
Kitagawa envisioned an entirely different future.
“Every businessman should be able to afford at least one genuine top-class suit each season.”
A suit that would cost ¥500,000–¥800,000 today—sometimes well over ¥1 million—
crafted with full handwork and imported Italian fabrics,
yet accessible in price.
What everyone considered impossible began here.

Kitagawa reached a simple but revolutionary conclusion:
“If I can combine these two strengths, truly accessible luxury can be achieved.”
This insight became the foundation of VESTA.
● The Pattern Makes the Suit
Only a handful of people in the world can create a truly “beautiful” pattern
After wearing and comparing hundreds of suits worldwide,
Kitagawa reached an undeniable truth:
In tailoring, the pattern is everything.
A perfect pattern achieves:
- A silhouette that makes the wearer look naturally elegant
- A structure that follows the body instantly
- Comfort that moves with the wearer
Only a tiny number of patternmakers in the world can achieve all three simultaneously.
Thus, Kitagawa made an extraordinary decision:
He commissioned the then-President of the Italian Menswear Fashion Association
to create a master pattern and provide technical instruction.
This moment marked the birth of VESTA’s “true” Italian-inspired architecture.
● The Philosophy of Details—Shaped by 40+ Workshops
Recreating ¥1,000,000-class tailoring at an accessible price point
Before the Classico Italia boom even arrived in Japan,
Kitagawa launched an original suit model under the trademark:
“Sartoria Classico”
(Officially approved by the Japan Patent Office)
Its construction was defined by:
- A special master pattern created by the Italian association president
- Bespoke production of shoulder pads, full-canvas body (hon-busu), and wadding by Italian interlining manufacturers
- Japanese handwork and precise sewing techniques
Italian sensibility × Japanese precision
coexisting perfectly in a single garment.
● Trademark “Sartoria Classico”: The Birth of a New Standard
Travelling across Japan, Italy, and beyond with his daughter Miyuki—who spoke Italian—
Kitagawa visited over 40 tailoring ateliers and factories.
Through this journey, he reached an unshakeable conviction:
“Without faithfully recreating the details, real tailoring cannot exist.”
Although structure and inner engineering are the true essence of tailoring,
Kitagawa also placed uncompromising importance on visible details.
Today, many features considered “standard” in menswear were introduced and rooted in Japan
because Kitagawa learned, adopted, and implemented them decades earlier:
- Real surgeon’s cuffs (working sleeve buttons)
- Full canvas construction
- Hand-stitched edges (AMF/hand pick stitching)
- “Odaiba” inner facing construction
- Rear V-slit on trousers
- Sweat guards, refined interlinings, functional internal engineering
These were revolutionary at the time—
which is precisely why the Japan Patent Office approved
the trademark “Sartoria Classico.”
Recreating Italian hand-sewn culture through Japan’s quality control
was an immense challenge.
Achieving consistent quality for one-of-a-kind garments required
precision, discipline, and years of effort from Kitagawa and his craftsmen.
This spirit still defines VESTA today.
