Day 1｜はじまりの銀座──東京ジョンフォード創業から、VESTA誕生へ
「株式会社 東京ジョンフォード」が誕生したのは、今から38年ほど前のこと。
日本が高度経済成長を経て成熟社会へ向かう中、スーツは“働く人の戦闘服”として世の中を支えていました。
画一的で効率重視の時代──。
そんな中、創業者・北川康信は静かに疑問を抱きはじめます。
「スーツは本来、人の“人生”を包むものではないだろうか。」
「ただの仕事着ではなく、自分らしさや誇りを映し、1人でくつろいで来店できたり、家族やパートナーと楽しんで一着を作れる場が必要だ。」
こうして東京ジョンフォードは、ただスーツを仕立てる店ではなく、
“人生に寄り添う一着をつくる工房を併設するサロン”の創設のため、歩み始めました。
● 22年前──“自分の服を作る時間”を提供するサロンへ
時を重ねるうちに、お客様の声は変わっていきました。
「忙しい日常から離れて、ゆっくりと服を選びたい。」
「ただ買うのではなく、仕立てる過程そのものを楽しみたい。」
その声に応えるため、約22年前。
北川康信は大きな決断をします。
銀座の小さなショールームから移転し、
『ゆっくりと自分の服を作り上げるためのサロン』を作ろう。
そうして誕生したのが──
VESTA（ヴェスタ） by John Ford
ローマ神話で“家の火を守る女神”に由来する名前、そしてイタリア人なら服を着ることをイメージするその言葉には、 お客様が安心してくつろぎ、自分だけの一着を育てる場所であってほしいという願いが込められています。この名前をつけたのは、現在ジェネラルマネージャーを務める、北川康信の娘、美雪です。

● “可視化された仕立て”──ヴェスタ最大の特徴
ヴェスタが誕生する際、北川康信が最もこだわったポイントが一つあります。
それは──
ものづくりの透明性です。
🔹 ガラス張りのテーラールーム
ヴェスタには、仕立ての工程やプレス作業を“目の前で見ることができる”ガラス張りのテーラールームがあります。
職人の針運びやアイロンワークがリアルに見えるこの空間は、
誠実な仕事をお客様にそのままお見せする「透明性の証」として作られました。
🔹 常駐する縫製技術者
一般的なオーダー店とは異なり、ヴェスタには縫製技術者が常駐。
その場で細かい仕様確認や微調整ができるため、
“思い描いた一着”がそのまま形になる環境が整っています。
🔹 専門用具の導入
テーラールームには、縫製工場で使用される高精度のプレス機など、
本格的な専門器具を完備。これまではオフィスに併設していたテーラー部門を、店内で可視化できるテーラールームへと器具ごと移設。
銀座の一店舗でありながら“アトリエに近い仕上がり”を提供できるのは、
この設備があるからこそです。
● “後ろ姿まで美しい”を叶えるフィッティングルーム
もうひとつ、北川が徹底的にこだわったのがフィッティングルームです。

落ち着いて試着できるよう、ゆとりのある設計。
🔸 三面鏡
お一人で来店された際でも、首を動かさずに後ろ姿のシルエットを確認できるよう、
フィンティングルーム内に三面鏡を標準設置。
スーツを語る上で最も大切な“背中の表情”を、体をねじることなく、しっかり捉えるための仕掛けです。
● “くつろぎ”も仕立ての一部
VESTAがサロンとして誕生した理由のひとつは、
“服を作る時間を心地よく楽しんでいただくため”。
その象徴が、
長時間座っていても疲れないソファを備えたゆったりしたサロンスペース。
生地に触れ、職人の手元を眺めながら、
時間の流れを楽しむ──
それはまさにヴェスタが提供する“大人の贅沢”です。

こうして東京ジョンフォードは、
22年前に“仕立てのサロン”として生まれ変わりました。

Day 1｜Ginza Beginnings — From the Founding of Tokyo John Ford to the Birth of VESTA
“Tokyo John Ford” was founded approximately 38 years ago.
As Japan transitioned from its period of rapid economic growth into a mature society, the business suit stood as the symbolic “armor” supporting the working population.
It was a time defined by uniformity and efficiency.
Within this climate, founder Yasunobu Kitagawa quietly began to question the norm.
“A suit should be something that embraces a person’s life.”
“Not merely a work uniform, but a garment that reflects one’s pride, individuality, and the joy of creating a piece together—whether alone, with family, or with a partner.”
With this belief, Tokyo John Ford grew into more than a tailoring shop.
It became a salon that housed both a workshop and a space for crafting a suit that truly accompanies one’s life.
● 22 Years Ago — A Salon Where One Can Take Time to Create Their Own Clothing
Over time, the voices of customers began to shift.
“I want a place where I can choose clothing slowly, away from the rush of daily life.”
“I want to enjoy the process of tailoring, not just receive the finished suit.”
Listening to these voices, Yasunobu Kitagawa made a significant decision 22 years ago.
He moved away from the small Ginza showroom and created a new concept:
A salon where one can take the time to build their own garment from the ground up.
This marked the birth of
VESTA by John Ford.
Named after Vesta, the Roman goddess who protects the hearth and home, the salon was envisioned as a space where guests could relax, feel at ease, and nurture a garment made uniquely for them.
● “Visible Craftsmanship” — The Greatest Hallmark of VESTA
When designing VESTA, there was one point to which Yasunobu Kitagawa was absolutely committed:
Transparency in craftsmanship.
🔹 Glass-Walled Tailor Room
VESTA features a tailor room fully visible through glass walls, allowing guests to watch the sewing, pressing, and shaping processes happen in real time.
Every stitch, every movement of the iron, is part of our promise:
a transparent showcase of honest, meticulous work.
🔹 In-House Tailoring Specialists
Unlike most tailoring shops, VESTA has professional sewing technicians working on-site every day.
This allows for immediate specification checks, fine adjustments, and responsive communication—ensuring the finished suit aligns precisely with the customer’s vision.
🔹 Professional Factory-Level Equipment
The tailor room is equipped with high-precision pressing machines and professional tools typically found only in specialized manufacturing facilities.
The entire tailoring division—once located separately in an office—was relocated into the shop, equipment and all.
This allows VESTA to deliver atelier-level craftsmanship within a Ginza salon.
● A Fitting Room Designed for a “Beautiful Back Silhouette”
Another element Yasunobu Kitagawa was deeply devoted to was the fitting room.

The room is designed with generous space, allowing guests to try garments on without stress or constraint.

A three-way mirror is installed so guests can check their back silhouette without turning their head or twisting their body—
because in tailoring, the back view is often the true measure of elegance.

the time spent creating a garment becomes a pleasurable, relaxing experience.
A soft leather sofa, a quiet waiting area, fabrics to touch, and the sound of a craftsman’s iron in the background—
this atmosphere forms what we consider the true luxury of made-to-measure clothing.

And so, 22 years ago, Tokyo John Ford was reborn as
a tailoring salon dedicated to time, honesty, and craftsmanship.
A place to reclaim a moment for oneself.
A place to witness the sincerity of the maker’s hands.
A place where a suit is not purchased, but created.
